Dana believes that open source business models must be voluntary, and I can hardly disagree on this (all in all every business shouldn’t be based on compulsory buys). But open source code is not a commodity, and there is a lot of economic value behind it. Code, open source or not, is not enough.
Cloud platforms of the future: Hadoop and Eucalyptus – Dave Rosenberg says that Eucalyptus and Hadoop are two of the most interesting open source software of 2008. Even if David is an advisor to Eucalyptus, cloud computing is gaining traction, but apparently Italian legislators are still paying little attention to this phenomenon.
Packt – the publishing company specialized in books on software that have developed vibrant online communities – just published â€Drupal for Education and E-Learningâ€, yet another book on the 2008 Open Source CMS Award Winner.
The â€Drupal for Education and E-Learning†book was written by Bill Fitzgerald of FunnyMonkey, a company that recently launched a platform aimed at helping schools to share commons. The book was reviewed by Joel “Senpai” Farris, COO at WorkHabit, Michael Peacock, founder of a consultancy specialised in web design, and Peter Wolanin, Drupal core developer now employed by Acquia.

usually I keep myself and my readers updated following OSOR news, plus what I happen to know directly from friends and business contacts.
BE: Open source adoption is often bottom-up, Ph.D study says – Kris Vein, postdoctoral researcher at the Department of Management Information Systems of the University of Antwerp, says that the adoption of open source frequently seems to be a bottum-up process, but recommendations from IT firms and consultants are also important sources of information. Organisations should not base their open source policies on those of other institutions because each has its own contexts. Open source software selection has still to be taken seriously.
