  Open Source AIR Alternative: Appcelerator, an interview with Jeff Kunz 

  Appcelerator – the company founded in 2006 by Jeff Haynie and Nolan Wright, that took a first round in 2008 from Storm Ventures – recently released Titanium preview, an open source platform for building desktop applications using Web technologies.

  At the open source think tank I met Jeff Kunz, formerly Olliance Group partner and now VP of Business Development at Appcelerator, and I asked him some background about Appcelerator and its business model.

    My name is Trevor and I work at Appcelerator. I happened upon your article written about Appcelerator and your interview with our VP of Biz Dev Jeff regarding Appcelerator’s business model. It is refreshing to see something written about our business strategy and how we plan to make money. Most of the articles that I read are written solely about the technical side of our services. It is always good to get people on both sides of the spectrum involved in discussing and talking about what we do, from both a technical standpoint and also a business, monetary standpoint.   Jolt Awards 2009: The Open Source Winners list! 

  The 19th Jolt Annual Award ceremony, held at the SD WEST 2009 earlier this month, celebrated many open source winners this year, also in the books general and books technical categories.

  Postgres Plus is the Jolt Winner of the Database Engines and Data Tools category, and I tend to agree with Ed Boyajian, Enterprise DB CEO, saying that the award is an indication that the software industry understands that open sources databases are an increasingly disruptive force in the enterprise market.

    I am Ganesh Bhat, student of S P Jain Center of Management, Singapore and currently pursuing my Global MBA in IT Management.

    As part of the course I am doing a research on “State of Open Source” in Indian, Indonesian, Malaysian, Thailand, Chinese, Australian & Singaporean Government, Educational Institute and NGO’s.

    It would be great if you could please share information on the usage of Open Source Software that are being used in the institutions mentioned above.

    Please note that this is being done only for academic purposes.

    I request you to please help/provide data on the Open Source initiatives.

    About governments I’d suggest you to have a look at Center for Strategic & International studies to get a gist about what’s going on in those countries in terms of laws in favour of open source.

  Open Source Governance: State of the Art and Lesson Learnt in Italy (part III) 

  The lack of open source vision by the Italian government, along with attention paid by Obama to open source, brought my attention back to the importance Open Source Governance.

  I want to strive for open source adoption by national and local governments. I want to take the opportunity here to share some thoughts about why a FOSS governance is needed, and how we could accomplish the goal to use open source software to develop innovative initiatives.
