Funambol just announced the availability of Funambol v8, a redesigned AJAX version of the MyFUNAMBOL web portal, a proprietary product tailored for carriers based on their open source piece of software.
The differences between Funambol community and carriers’ editions is key to understand Funambol business model. Knowing the importance of external contributions I asked Stefano Maffulli, Funambol Community Manager, to tell me about how  he passed the message to the Funambol community.
My Acer Aspire One – powered by a commercial Linux distro called Linpus – after entering sleep mode couldn’t connect to the wireless network anymore. The wireless connection logo vanished, turning the wifi switch on/off didn’t work either, as was useless try to launch the Network Center. If you got a similar problem, read below.
I didn’t have any patience for Linpus. Ubuntu UNR as the regular desktop version work much better on the AA1. I also gave Moblin a shot, was gross. But, I found that Ubuntu handles all the AA1-stuff nicely – including the fan, and wireless controls.
Hi Kit, Linpus is not my cup of tea too. So said, I believe that the casual buyer will hardly reinstall another Linux distro even if it is likely much more up-to-date.
Technical articles now, Roberto? I’m proud of you! 🙂
Ciao Josef! Glad you appreciate this, usually I refrain from writing technical stuff because is pretty out of the scope of my blog. So said, time by time I enjoy making exceptions, though.
Thanks you shared!
And I think you should come up with more such stuff. Network troubles are very common so any help is appreciated.
