Orvieto last week hosted the second ODF Interoperability Workshop, an international event bringing together ODF implementers from all over the world. My talk “open standards and interoperability” opened the first session on day 1, just after Fabio Pistella - President of the Italian National Center for ICT in Public Administrations (CNIPA) - welcomed the international audience.

The ODF Plugfest is a series of events bringing together implementors and stakeholders of OASIS OpenDocument Format/ISO 26300 to test standards conformance and discuss ODF implementation issues.
Until the first ODF Plugfest, vendors were not asked to prove that their software products meet open standards‘ specifications, and declarations of conformity was a self-certification process. Now everything is changed, and ODF implementors and stakeholders work together aiming at true interoperability.
Free Software Foundation Europe one year ago introduced the Document Freedom Day, and also this year a global day for document liberation is scheduled for 25 of March.
The initiative promotes only ODF, other open standards, like the Portable Document Format (PDF), are ignored.
