More About SOS Open Source

sos open source logoSOS Open Source has been launched just six months ago, and since then both open source vendors and large customers asked for evaluations and  comparison assessment reports.

Since we have been asked to qualify more community-led projects, starting from this month will publish every month a new report about one of them.

What Do Open Source Surveys reveal?

Black Duck today released the results of a survey asking 20 developer executives from 14 global enterprises about the top technology trends and about barriers to greater use of open source software in development projects. The 2010 edition of the “future of open source” published a survey reporting feedback from 551 respondents (48% vendors, 52% non vendors), giving feedback about what makes open source attractive and top 3 barriers to open source adoption.

Within the collaboration with IBM Italy to organize a series of meeting for Italian public administrations we asked to 16 IT public decision makers using open source - mostly innovators and early adopters - about open source critical success factors, barriers and open source governance.

About Reusing Open Source in Italian Public Administrations

During the Public Administrations Innovator barcamp I have been interviewed by Cogo Gigi, one of the organizers, to talk about sustainable innovation in software for public administrations.

In Italy innovation is a 21st century buzz-word, but even limiting to properly reuse existing open source software and practices would be great if done right.

European Open Source Procurement Guidelines: How Do you Like Them?

Talking about Alfresco’s business strategy I happened to mention that the European open source observatory released guidelines for open source procurement.

The OSOR guideline draws on the extensive analysis conducted by the Dutch government’s OSOSS in 2005, followed by a guide published later by the successor organization to the OSOSS program (Netherlands Open in Verbinding).
