Open Source Meta-Forges: MonitoringForge is online!

Yesterday GroundWork announced the launch of MonitoringForge, probably the first vertical meta-forge of open source projects belonging to a specific software category (IT monitoring).

Talking frequently with David Dennis - Senior Director marketing at GroundWork - I happened to share with him the idea that a neutral open source monitoring à la CMSMatrix was missing.  Now that GroundWork decided to start an initiative somehow going towards that direction I asked Tara Spalding, VP Marketing at GroundWork, to comment the news.

Open Source Pricing Incentives and Business Strategies: the GroundWork case

About three months ago GroundWork announced the availability of GroundWork Monitor Starter Edition, a cheaper edition designed to establish a position at the lower end of the market and yet educating users to trade money to save time (as Mårten Mickos docet).

Open Source Monitoring: Zenoss Community and Zenoss Unique Selling Proposition, an interview with Mark Hinkle

Zenoss, the provider of open source network, systems and applications management software, with its Zenoss Masters program - aimed at recognizing the contributions of outstanding members of the Zenoss Community - this week awarded Jane Curry of Skills 1st.

Open Source Usage Statistics: BitRock Network Service, an interview with Erica Brescia

Open Source Vendors: Towards a Production Classification in Function of Firm-Community Relationship

Few days ago I joined the open source vendor debate remarking the importance of resolving the name confusion in favor of customers, and Jaspersoft CEO Brian Gentile shout-out saying that open core offers best opportunity for community and commercial Success.

Lines blurring between open source and proprietary vendors apparently invigorate the debate. I want to take the chance here to classify production model in function of the nature of firm-community relationship.

Open Source Monitoring: GroundWork 5.3 released, an interview with David Dennis

Groundwork, the provider of the open source based network management software, announced  the availability of GroundWork 5.3. The new platform increased scalability, the number of devices managed by a single subscription, and avoids per-node licensing. 

Reading the press release few questions came up in my mind. I asked David Dennis, senior director of product marketing at Groundwork, more about GroundWork’s customer base, how GroundWork keeps pace with open source innovation and how GroundWork benefits from using the BitRock Network Service.
