Whil reviewing books for the Jolt Awards, I have been reading the “Intellectual Property and Open Source” book, published by O’Reilly and authored by Van Lindberg. A book meant to be a developer’s documentation for the legal system, potentially able to serve different audiences, IT managers included.

Open Source Mobile: Funambol’s Differences between Community and Carrier Editions

On my way back from the Open Source Think Tank I met my friend Fabrizio Capobianco at his office in Reedwood city, and he took the chance to show me his new MobileWe portal, the Funambol’s version of  Apple’s MobileMe.

Funambol business model has always intrigued me, and I asked Fabrizio more about how Funambol manages the difference between the community edition and the carrier edition.

OpenOffice.org Conference 2009: is Orvieto’s Time!

OpenOffice.org Annual Conference 2009 will be held in Orvieto (Italy). This year OOoCon rules are changed, the community awarded not just OOoCon 2009, but also OOoCon 2010, that will be held in Budapest (Hungary).

The OpenOffice.org Conference Team, following a community consultation process, awarded Orvieto, a clear favourite with 48% of the votes. Budapest was second with 29%.

Open Source Usage Statistics: BitRock Network Service, an interview with Erica Brescia

GroundWork 5.3 press release says that customers benefit from using the BitRock Network Service to be notified of available patches, and updates, and technical bulletins.
