1 - The code for all those projects is open, so given the right expertise and enough time, anyone could figure out what is going on.

2 - Most of the people that work on those long tail projects are available via mailing lists and email. It's much easier to maintain relationships with developers on 400 projects, like OpenLogic does, than it is to support them in house.</description>
